STYLE GURU BIO: Kayla McMahon

Hey, it’s Kay! Or, you can call me Kayla, but I like to keep it short and simple. I am originally from Maryland and currently a junior at James Madison University. My major is Communication Studies with a concentration in Public Relations and a minor in Writing. I am thrilled to share my style with you all for the upcoming season!

Before we get into fashion, I will tell you a little more about myself. I grew up in a small town where high school football games and Friday nights go together like peanut butter and jelly. I am very close with my family and, of course, my dog. I have been a dancer since the age of four and I have continued my dance career at school as a member of the Madison Dance Club. Like fashion, dance is an art form that allows me to freely express myself.

I have used fashion as a freedom of expression since a young age. My passion for fashion began in preschool when I refused to wear anything except a dress to school. Now, I cannot say that I wear dresses to class everyday, but I certainly like to show off my style whenever I can.

What is my style? Well, that is a tough question. My style cannot be pinpointed because I love exploring new looks. One day, I’ll be rocking a boho look with a heavy poncho and a lot of earthy tones. Then, the next day, I’ll keep it simple with a plain sweater and plaid scarf. My style is diverse because who says you have to pick just one? I will admit, however, that I have an obsession with shoes. From pointy-toed heels to over-the-knee boots, all types of shoes can be found in my closet.

I also love experimenting with my makeup. Growing up as a competitive dancer, I was always wearing a full face of makeup. I like to use my Naked 2 eye shadow palette from Urban Decay and try to get my eyeliner perfectly winged. Lipstick, however, can transform any face from drab to fab. A dark cherry color is my favorite.

Well, I think I have rambled on about myself for long enough. Explore my style and the trendiest looks on my campus by reading my articles! I am excited to start this journey as a Style Guru with my fellow Fashionistas and Fashionistos by my side.
