STYLE GURU BIO: Kayla Harrelson

Hello to all my lovely readers! My name is Kayla Harrelson. I am a senior at the University of Arkansas studying apparel merchandising and product development with a minor in marketing. I’m so thrilled to be part of the Guru Gang for the first time and I can’t wait to start sharing my style finds here in the charming little city of Fayetteville.

A few things about me you should know: my go-to color is black, I follow an embarrassing amount of fashion bloggers on Instagram, and I simply cannot resist a good bargain. As much as I would love to build up a really sleek and minimalistic wardrobe, I just like shopping too much. You can find me reading about the latest trends, watching fashion documentaries on Netflix, and always hunting for the perfect pair of shoes. I have been drawn to the fashion industry for as long as I can remember. My love for fashion started with the now fashion icons, Mary-Kate and Ashley. Yeah, Lizzie McGuire and the Cheetah Girls were great but I found my obsession with fashion hidden in the countless MK&A movies from the early 2000s.

For this look, I tried to keep it simple, yet trendy. I am wearing my Forever 21 ripped mom jeans on top of black fishnets. I paired them with a tied up Guns & Roses graphic T-shirt to show off the top of the fish nets and layered with a soft heather gray coat from Zara. For this outfit, I decided to go with more of a grunge look to fit my mood of the day. But the next day, I wore a chunky light pink sweater dress with a fur vest over it. That’s why I honestly don’t know if I can put a label on my style or even narrow it down to a few words. I’m not ready to limit myself and make that kind of commitment because I’m only 22 and my style changes every other day.

I love exploring new trends and finding what works best for me. I believe that fashion has no restrictions. My best piece of fashion advice is always to do what you want to do. If you want to wear fishnets under your ripped jeans, do it. If you want to wear leggings and a T-shirt, do it. Whatever you are most comfortable in is what you should be wearing. So if I could give a bit of advice it would be to dress boldly, wear what you love and always incorporate pieces you feel are unique to your personal style. If you would do me the honor as to join me on this journey through my inner thoughts and deepest passions, I will be inclined to hold back nothing and share with you the true joy of my heart.
