STYLE GURU BIO: Katy O’Connor

Hello fashionable friends! My name’s Katy, and I am currently a freshman and Fashion Merchandising major at Lasell College. I am beyond ecstatic to be a part of the CollegeFashionista team as a Style Guru! I love all things fashion and this internship allows me to write about trends, styles and outfit details on a weekly basis. Autumn is my absolute favorite season, and not just for the weather here in New England but because of all the great colors and fashion trends that come with it.

So, whether it’s strutting your stuff to class, interviewing for that amazing internship or simply hitting the bars on a Friday night, this fall I’ve got you covered! Take a break from those books, grab hot cup of coffee and check out my new weekly #RAD articles!

One of the things I love so much about fashion is that you don’t have to stick to just one trend. My style tends to change on a daily basis. I love being able to go from super girly looks in dresses and heels to more edgy looks with moto jackets and combat boots. One thing that is always a major decision factor in my fashion choices is comfort. All those things you’ve heard about having to sacrifice comfort for fashion are NOT true and I intend to show you all cute and alternative ways to wear your favorite comfy clothes on campus this year.

As I mentioned, I usually try to keep my outfits simple and comfortable, especially in the summertime since it’s hot. So when T-shirt dresses started to come out, I immediately filled my closet with them. I love them not only because they’re crazy comfortable but because they’re so versatile. Whether it’s back to school shopping or date night the T-shirt dress can easily be transformed and dressed up or down with the right jewelry and accessories. Since we are beginning our transition into fall trends and the temperatures are slowly beginning to drop at night, I like to compliment my outfits with pieces that can easily be put on or taken off in order to stay comfortable. In this look I paired one of my favorite pinstripe T-shirt dresses with an army green button-up for an outfit that I’d call comfy-chic. During the daytime, I like to keep the button-up tied around my waist for a more layered look. Yet, I can still easily throw it on for a more put together and sophisticated evening or fall look. Finally, I finished off this outfit with my must-have funky gold statement necklace, my favorite rose gold watch, and an essential cognac cross-body.

I am absolutely thrilled to share my passion for fashion with CollegeFashionista and Lasell College. I hope to give some good tips and advice, as well as learn from other Style Gurus this year. So stay tuned, and let’s get ready for a very fashionable fall!
