STYLE GURU BIO: Katy Huff

When I was a little girl, I used to take style personality quizzes just about every day. Never content with the answer I got, I would retake the quizzes and fudge my responses to skew the personality to be the one I preferred. Now, as I reflect on this attitude toward letting these questionnaires define my style, I want to kick little me in the behind. Why I ever thought these quizzes were legitimate and a true definer of my style is beyond me, but what I did learn from them in the end was very important—who you are and what you wear is not set in stone.

Style is adaptable. There is no written rule that says your style must be preppy or punk all day, every day, all the time. The fun of fashion is that there is so much innovation out there to choose from. I am the type of shopper that hits up every corner of the store. My eye has no limits. I take a little from the bohemian vibe, snatch up some grunge duds and pick up some preppy pieces. Variety is the spice of life I always say. Style personalities are a trap. You have so much more fun when you shop the whole retail range.

My day-to-day apparel never stays the same. One day I’ll be wearing distressed jeans and platform boots, and then the next day I’ll shake it up with a traditional blazer and a pair of penny loafers. I am whatever style personality I feel like being from one day to the next. Fun, large and in charge scarves make a statement and can be reworked into almost any outfit. A classic watch can be worn with just about anything, too. Know how to mix and match and your wardrobe will expand tenfold. You can never be bored with what’s in your closet if you get creative and think outside the box.

Ask me what my style is like one day and expect a different answer tomorrow. Fashion personalities are like my children—I can’t just pick my favorite when I love them all the same. Treat your style the way you treat anything other interest you have. Friends change, music tastes change, favorite foods change. So, why does your style have to follow the same flow all the time? If I were to take one of those personality quizzes today, I would most likely get a different answer every time. Not because I was changing my answers intentionally to get what I wanted, but because my style is so miscellaneous. I wear what I want when I want. I am every style personality wrapped up in one, and I rock it every time.
