STYLE GURU BIO: Katy Glass

Hello fashion divas and divos(?)! I’m Katy Glass, one of your Style Gurus this fall. As a Creative Writing Fiction graduate student at Emerson College, so my world hinges on observation. I collect all sorts of looks from all sorts of sources: women, men, girls, boys and even the elderly (there are some rocking old people out there). I like to refer to my style as “all-embracing.” I give most looks a chance, and even if I don’t buy it I’ve learned about it. From the fit to tone interactions, I’ll have some opinion to give.

At maybe five or six, my mom dressed me in a baby blue and baby pink outfit and that was the day that I realized I looked terrible in spring colors. Fall colors made me feel like a beauty queen, or at least a cutie out on the playground. Through elementary and middle school, I tomboyed out, occasionally shocking my peers with a fab dress here or there. My eighth grade homecoming was a fashion nightmare. Three other girls had the same dress as me. That’s when things kicked into high gear because I was never going to live through such horror again.

I have worldly fashion, or I suppose I should say “stately” fashion as I’ve hardly left the U.S. I’ll be here to advise you for a night out, a boat party, an interview, a blizzard, a “meet the parents” outfit or just about anything. I’ll also try to introduce you to more obscure accessories and clothing, such as the diversity of crystal jewelry or the wonders of the non-padded bra.

For my first fashion statement, I decided to go with good ol’ H&M for my top and skirt. The top features a zodiac chart, and a similar one can be found on Etsy. My necklace is raw, wire-wrapped Rose Quartz. My handbag is from ALDO. Moving down to my feet are black-laced-wedge booties from Charlotte Russe. Lastly, lace “glovelettes” are from, of all places, Party City.

I’m excited to show you Emerson College’s Boston runway!
