STYLE GURU BIO: Katrina Odfina

Hey again, fellow Fashionistas and Fashionistos! My name is Katrina Odfina and I am a third year student at the University of Washington, Seattle. I am so stoked to be a part of the CollegeFashionista team again for a second semester. As a California girl going to college in the chilly Pacific Northwest, it was a brutal wardrobe transition having to leave a lot of my tank tops and shorts back home. In Seattle, outfit functionality always comes first. One minute the sun will be shining and the next minute, the sky turns gray and you suddenly find yourself caught in the infamous Seattle rain. Nonetheless, I firmly believe that making an outfit functional never has to mean sacrificing being fashionable. For example, this outfit is perfect for winter—a California winter, that is. However, I’ve found that my happy medium in simply shrugging on a ridiculously warm hooded coat to mold my style to fit Seattle’s climate.

What I love so much about writing for CollegeFashionista is the fact that I now have an outlet to share my excitement with you all whenever I spot someone on campus whose outfit I’m geeking out over. I just love the challenge it presents to blatantly disregard the awkwardness of walking up to a random stranger and telling them you like their outfit and would like to take a picture of them. Additionally, seeing the surprised delight in people’s eyes when I commend their style truly warms my heart and motivates me even more in my passion for fashion and writing. I mean, let’s be honest, whenever anyone takes the time to put together an outfit, it’s always gratifying when someone takes notice.

In a college as diverse and vast as the University of Washington, I’ve witnessed so many different styles with influences from all across the world. It’s a sincerely humbling feeling for me to have the opportunity to be exposed to such a melting pot of fashion cultures. I look forward to sharing even more style inspiration with you all from our lovely campus nestled in the filthy (Seattle slang translation for “cool”) city of Seattle!
