STYLE GURU BIO: Katie Shaffer

Hello friends! My name is Katie Shaffer. I am a rising sophomore and psychology major at Saint Mary’s College. This is my first semester with CollegeFashionista, and I am so excited to share with you my fashion knowledge throughout the summer. I am also looking forward to learning a thing or two from other Fashionistas. Fashion is always evolving and I am always on the lookout for new things to adapt into my wardrobe.

I credit my my love of fashion to my sister, my cousins and Tyra Banks. While growing up I did everything that my sister and cousins did, including trying to dress how they did. If my cousin was going to wear big hoop earrings, so was I. I have a very distinct memory of being written up for a dress code violation at school for the overwhelming size of my earrings. Even at a young age I tried to push the limits with my style. While my sister and cousins influenced my style, Tyra Banks taught me what style was. I began watching America’s Next Top Model at the age of seven during season one. From that point on I was obsessed with the fashion industry and everything about it.

My style can range from boho to classic to trendy. I love taking inspiration from celebrities such as Blake Lively, Emma Roberts and the Kardashians. I also try to keep up with what my favorite blogs are talking about at the moment. My favorite part about my style is that it is completely me. While I take inspiration from a lot of places, I always try to add my own touch to any outfit I wear.

In this outfit, I have taken some inspiration from the ’70s. I paired jeggings with a black bodysuit, a colorful kimono, black sandals and topped it off with a black floppy hat. I am currently obsessed with bodysuits. I feel instantly put together any time I have one on. Kimonos are a summer must have for me. They make any outfit look breezy and fun. For my jewelry I am wearing some of my favorite Alex and Ani bracelets. They are perfect for layering and are a fun way to express your personality. I have also added some assorted rings, and to keep with the ’70s-vibe of my outfit I am wearing a vintage necklace given to me by my grandma.

Thanks for reading and I am looking forward to a RAD semester!
