Hi there, Fashionistas and Fashionistos! Few things give me greater joy that starting off a new school year fresh (yeah, I’m dorky like that) and I couldn’t think of a better addition to my last year of college than to continue on with CollegeFashionista. As of just last week, I am officially a senior at Western Illinois University, and it feels so strange to type that. It seems like just yesterday I was starting my Fashion Merchandising degree and discovering CollegeFashionista for the first time three semesters ago.
I can remember the terror and excitement of trying to approach complete strangers on campus. I had previously considered myself a fairly outgoing person, but the internship pushed me to my limits. Wearing black on black is, of course, forever chic, but a little color never hurt anyone, right? It can be so easy to become wrapped in the world of your own specific department, but my first semester with CollegeFashionista opened my eyes to the fact that so many people on WIU’s campus had such a unique fashion sense, regardless of their major!
My second semester, I was assigned to the STYLE GURU STYLE category, and this seemed like it would be a breeze. Having had my own style blog for almost two years, I thought that this category would come naturally. Oh, how wrong I was. CollegeFashionista challenged me to create new outfits, think outside the box and be influenced by more than just street style. The runway shows of Valentino (my new favorite designer) suddenly became more than just the pages I flipped past in a magazine and I saw my personal style evolve into something I’d never known possible!
Each semester I’ve learned something new about myself and the world of fashion thanks to CollegeFashionista. To those of you who are reading this and might be skeptical or afraid—just do it! I can’t begin to imagine what the junior year of my college career would have been like without this team. My excitement to start up again has been bubbling over for weeks, and now it is finally here. Let’s make this the best semester yet!
