STYLE GURU BIO: Kathryn Koyanagi

Style Guru Bio

Hello, all! My name is Kathryn Koyanagi and I am undeniably a leather jacket enthusiast with a weakness for skinny jeans and little black booties. I am currently a Communication major at Simon Fraser University who heartily believes that one can never be overdressed or undereducated. When I am not studying or working, you can find me baking cupcakes or searching through the cavernous abyss that is Instagram.

This will be my first semester with CollegeFashionista and I could not be feeling any more inspired. As the years have passed, I have witnessed my wardrobe grow and evolve into an abundance of textures, bold colors and staple basics. With that being said, my style has also gone through many drastic changes as I have moved through various stages of life. Most recently, as briefly mentioned above, you will almost always see me wearing my favorite leather jacket.

As in this ensemble, I have paired my jacket with an otherwise monochromatic look in order to add a little edge. I am also sporting my “holy grail” black ankle booties. These shoes are perfect for all seasons (and not to mention, comfortable)! The silver detail on the buckles also happens to complement and emphasize the silver details in the jacket. In the winter, I like to add little gray socks underneath and in the summer, I go bare feet.

My personal style is contemporary and feminine with a hint of streetwear. I appreciate a limited edition sneaker as much as a well-tailored blazer. My current style muses are fashion bloggers Julie Sarinana of Sincerely Jules and Rumi Neely of fashiontoast. I often find myself incorporating little bits of each blogger into my own unique style. I feel that my style and the different outfits I construct act a form of self-expression and to a large degree, reflect who I am.

I am looking forward to writing for the WHAT TO WEAR column this summer. Living in Vancouver and having class in the city center means I will constantly be exposed to many fashion savvy students and residents. I cannot wait to showcase and share the diversity of style that Vancouverites have to offer. I hope that my fellow self-proclaimed fashion aficionados will join me on Thursday’s to take a look at how SFU students and Vancouver inhabitants are outfitting themselves for a variety of different occasions!
