STYLE GURU BIO: Katelin Davis

Marc Jacobs once said, “I always find beauty in things that are odd and imperfect – they are much more interesting.” Hello my darling Fashionista/os! My name is Katelin, and I encourage you to join me on this imperfect ride! I promise I will make it interesting.

I am currently a sophomore studying journalism and religious studies at the amazing University of Mississippi in Oxford.  Through Oxford’s small-town vibe and proximity to larger cities, I’ve been able to combine my love for classic Southern fashion with the modern flair teeming in Nashville, Tennessee.  My love for fashion, however, began long before my journey to the beautiful city of Oxford.

Born in the wrong era some might say, as a child, I loved the classics. Classic actresses, I mean. I remember looking at Audrey Hepburn and Grace Kelly thinking, “I want to be them!” As an extremely chubby kid, I wasn’t confident enough to wear the clothes I thought were beautiful on these amazing actresses.  It wasn’t until much later that I discovered what these ladies did for the world in those fashionable heels. Their acts of philanthropy drove my love for fashion even further.  I realized that their beauty didn’t come from their clothes or their attitudes individually, but from the two combined.  From there, I made it my mission to wear exactly what I wanted, no matter my size.

As I grew older, my style evolved from fully feminine to include a little more edge. I drew inspiration from Carrie Bradshaw (hence the tutu) to dress in theme for every occasion. With this new found inspiration, my closet grew to include the most eclectic mix of clothes imaginable. Some days I love to dress in head to toe in glitter and pearls. The next I sport my favorite soccer team’s jersey and a pair of Converse.

My favorite thing to do is encourage people to be exactly who they are! If that means you’re more of a jeans and T-shirt person, then rock it! If you love pearls and lace, go for it! One thing I do know for sure, clothes will not change the world. Put the right Fashionista/o in those clothes, however, and the world better watch out!

I’m so incredibly excited to be working for College Fashionista this semester! I hope I can encourage you to rock whatever outfit you love! So join me on this incredible road to self-discovery or maybe just the discovery of an amazing pair of shoes; either one is fine by me. I’ll see you around campus.  I can’t wait to see what you’ll be wearing!
