STYLE GURU BIO: Kate Goodman

Hi there! My name is Kate, and this is my first semester with CollegeFashionista. I’m so excited to get to know all of you and for you all to get to know me!

I’m originally from Los Angeles and am currently a sophomore at NYU studying in the Liberal Studies Program, but I will soon be making my own major to study fashion business in the Gallatin School of Individualized Study. In addition to school and being a new Style Guru, I work part-time as an assistant to a fashion marketing consultant. I am also the Panhellenic Delegate for my sorority, Kappa Kappa Gamma, and the Public Relations Chair for the Fashion Business Association at NYU. It’s a lot to keep track of, but I am absolutely in love with everything I do and the people I get to do it with, and at the end of the day that’s truly so important. I was raised to believe in the idea that if you love what you do and who you’re around (at work and otherwise), everything else will fall into place.

Now onto the fun stuff!

I centered this outfit around one of my favorite color combos, especially for spring: pink and black. I took a floral print romper with beautiful, black lace detailing, threw on black lace-up heels, and added a black leather jacket (admittedly borrowed from the boys– thanks Dad) to give this look a little more of an edge. I topped off the look by accessorizing with pink-tinted sunglasses and a pink glitter scrunchie that I found at Topshop for a glam way to keep my hair out of my face without leaving dents or causing breakage.

My personal style is very focused around a piece that makes a statement, something unique whether it be in the detailing or in an overpowering print. I organize the rest of the outfit in a minimal, simplistic, even neutral way around this one statement piece. In this look, the statement comes from the lace detailing on the back and the neutral-colored print of the romper, which I chose to layer with mostly black pieces in order to allow the print to command more attention. This is the perfect easy outfit to wear on a night out with the girls once the warmer months roll around, whether you’re hitting up a hot dinner spot or dancing the night away!

Fun fact about me: I am always wearing the rhinestone gold heart bracelet that you see on my left wrist. My best friend and I got a set of friendship bracelets from Kate Spade this past summer. One is a heart (mine) and one is an arrow (hers).

Thanks so much for reading! Check me out on social media and feel free to reach out!
