STYLE GURU BIO: Kate Day

When I was 12 years old, I begged my mom to take me into the Chanel store by her office just to browse. After much persistence, I got my way and the second I stepped in the door, my heart skipped a beat. It was the fall 2010 ready-to-wear collection and I felt as though I was stuck in a winter wonderland. Almost every article of clothing was fur and I was captivated. It was in that moment, I knew I wanted to work in the fashion industry one day.

Not only did that moment spark a lifelong love of fashion, but one for faux fur as well. It’s always been one of my favorite materials, so you can imagine how excited I am that fur is such a trend right now. I’m living for it! You can also imagine my excitement when I found this white faux fur bomber. I think it combines the bomber and fur trend seamlessly, and adds a little bit of athleisure to an outfit. Not to mention it’s warm and cozy which is perfect, because I am a freshman at Loyola University Chicago where it is freezing 90 percent of the time.

I paired my fur jacket with my essentials: T-shirt, skinny jeans, and suede knee-high boots. To spice things up, I layered a lacy satin tank top over my T-shirt for a ’90s vibe. I kept the colors in this look extremely neutral so I could let the multiple textures do the talking.

This look is the perfect representation of my personal style. I like to think of my fashion sense as trendy, classic, and edgy. But, I’m also a total sucker for a statement piece or a wow moment. I love that fashion can tell a story so I enjoy finding pieces that are conversation starters, such as my jacket.

I am beyond excited to embark on my first semester as a Style Guru. CollegeFashionista will be the perfect place for me to utilize my passion for fashion, writing, and social media outside of my public relations major. I’m looking forward to find creative inspiration on my campus. Chicago is one chic city and I can’t wait to bring the stylish looks this semester.
