STYLE GURU BIO: Karly Whittington

Hey y’all! My name is Karly Whittington and I attend The University of Mississippi, more commonly known as Ole Miss. I am a Business Marketing and Corporate Relations major and my dream is to move to a big city like Atlanta or New York City and enter into the fashion industry from the business side. I just finished up my first year at Ole Miss as a transfer student from the Western suburbs of Chicago and will be starting my junior year this coming fall! I have a love for perfectly organized Pinterest boards and in my opinion, leopard and American flag print are neutrals.

I go to a school where our college football game days are like fashion shows and our nights out on the town are anything less of that. Although I have been interested in fashion and experimenting with clothing long before I went to Ole Miss, attending my university has definitely had a huge impact on my style and what catches my eye. My interest in fashion started my freshman year of college when I was introduced to social media websites like Pinterest and Tumblr, which have had a huge impact on my life and how I convey my style to others. I also started working at J.Crew and worked as a personal shopper for many people, which involved a lot of styling and I quickly became obsessed with the idea of dressing other people. I started my Tumblr page in 2013 and throughout the two years that I have been active on it, it has gained much popularity and has allowed me to share my own style advice and pictures of my daily outfits. Spending endless hours on websites like Tumblr has presented me with outfit ideas that I would have never thought of otherwise. As I started getting messages from my Tumblr followers saying how much they liked the way I was styling certain pieces and the affordability of my style, it made me even more driven to take this creativity that I have to a whole new level, which is through being a Style Guru for CollegeFashionista.

I always get asked what influences my style and what I would personally label my style. The simplest way for me to put it is that I enjoy mixing classic styles with trendy pieces. I also have a newfound love for the boho-chic look along with bringing back the 90s: I am a 90s child after all. You can usually find me browsing the racks of T.J.Maxx, Forever 21 and boutiques in my college town. Although these are some of my favorite places to pick up pieces, if I could have a shopping spree anywhere, it would definitely be at BCBGMAXAZRIA.

Thanks y’all and I cannot wait to share all that I have with you and grow through this opportunity! Make sure to keep checking in on my articles. I think you will like what you see. Stay rad.
