STYLE GURU BIO: Kara Overton

Hi everyone! My name is Kara Overton and I am a junior at West Virginia University pursuing a degree in fashion merchandising and business. I am originally from Annapolis, MD but decided that, “Almost heaven, West Virginia…” would be my second home. My dream is to one day move to the Big Apple and work for a large fashion company. I’m very excited for this opportunity because in addition to my passion for the fashion industry, I love blogging and social media.

My belief is that fashion is anything you want it to be. If you feel great, you will look your best! So what’s my style? I would describe myself as trendy, but also sporty and casual. My primary focus when selecting an outfit is style, comfort and most importantly, an appropriate choice for me. I’m 5’10 so you will rarely find me walking around in heels, unless it is a special occasion. You will usually find me walking in boyfriend jeans, a flowy tank top and my Birkenstocks. My style is varied. I like to dress it up, but at the same time, make it comfortable and casual. I like to keep it feminine, but I love the sporty look. My attraction for clothing items is often toward black or neutral colors, but I also love wearing bold colored dresses like hot pink.

For this look, I have decided to go with one of my most common, “going out at night” looks. One of my favorite clothing items is the romper. They are comfortable, casual and easy for the daytime, but you can easily dress it up for an evening out. I paired my romper with a pair of tan heels and a bright colored necklace to give it a pop. I like to keep things simple, but often that little extra touch can change your look from ordinary to extraordinary!

I am extremely thankful and excited to have this opportunity in sharing my experiences with CollegeFashionista. I look forward to an exciting, creative and innovative semester of fashion blogging.
