Hello! My name is Kali Concepcion, and this marks my fourth semester writing for CollegeFashionista! For the past year and a half, I’ve stepped out of my comfort zone quite a few times interviewing Fashionistas during a summer in LA for WHAT TO WEAR, and also with menswear last semester back at FSU in Tallahassee, Florida. This summer will be no different with the epitome of uncharted territory (at least in my case) as I will be writing for STYLE GURU STYLE every Tuesday. This is a totally brand new category for Style Gurus to showcase our personal style in relation to trends spotted on the runway. I’m definitely looking forward to getting to know some fellow Style Gurus better than ever.
Though I’m writing for this self-inspired category, I’m painfully camera shy and it will be apparent in my awkward attempts at making the right face — but I will do it! I wouldn’t have it any other way either, as this summer I’ll be surrounded by endless inspiration in New York City working as a marketing intern for the one-and-only CollegeFashionista offices! I love being a part of this team, and cannot fathom that the countless opportunities that I’ve received after applying that summer of 2013 have brought me right where the magic happens. I can’t thank you all enough.
Over the years, my style has certainly continued evolving, now incorporating some of the “ugly trends,” as well as, on the other side of the spectrum, feminine and bohemian elements here and there. So as you can see my round Ray-Bans are still going strong and glued to my face (don’t worry I switch colors sometimes) and so are my subtle gold accessories. These include some chain bracelets, mismatched earrings and rings, a knuckle ring and this time a barely-there gold choker; I love this trend and naturally I’m keeping it minimal. Another new favorite making an appearance is my Jennifer Fisher safety pin earring and this modest little Ralph Lauren bag for the perfect pop of neutral color.
My love for the “ugly trends” is reflected in my white flatforms (double whammy), and on top of that, I won’t pretend that I haven’t purchased more than one pair of culottes. As for this lovely black garment, I opted for an ASOS kimono-sleeve dress, which I love because it’s both amazing and appropriate for practically any occasion.
I’m super excited to delve into all these new experiences this summer, and who knows, maybe I’ll become a natural in front of the camera. So before Ford offers me a modeling contract, keep your eyeballs out for my articles here every Tuesday for a glimpse of my STYLE GURU STYLE! Thanks so much for reading!
