I’m Kali Concepcion, a junior in the Retail Merchandising and Product Development major at Florida State University, and this is STYLE GURU BIO number three. After two awesome semesters writing for the FASHIONISTA/O SPOTLIGHT and WHAT TO WEAR columns, every Tuesday this spring I will be stepping out of my comfort zone and putting my focus in a more foreign category—LET’S HEAR IT FOR THE BOYS. I’m absolutely looking forward to not only becoming more familiar with the menswear side of fashion, but also tracking down and showcasing the most inspiring Fashionistos you can find within FSU’s brick campus.
If you’ve been following since my first semester, you’ve probably noticed I still haven’t taken off my round metal Ray-Bans, and I’ve been pretty consistent with my love for simple flats and lack-there-of for color. With an influx of inspiration coming from the runway, street style and bloggers, my personal style is constantly evolving little by little. Throughout the years I’ve grown more familiar with what I know I like and can honestly say I get dressed every morning for myself.
Stemming from that, a psychic once told me that I’m someone who is meant to sport a lot of color—that if I do so, it will translate into my overall attitude, and consequently I’ll be a cheerier more accurate me. Obviously this hasn’t made a huge impact on my decisions based on this all black ensemble. Feeling part gullible/part curious, I tried to acquire a mildly more colorful wardrobe. I found that I appreciate and admire smart use of color, however akin to one’s first love, my love for neutrals is the strongest and is an enduring infatuation I’ve yet to shake off. The perfect example of my kind of subtle pop of color is seen in my favorite natural pink lip color by Tarte, and this amazing navy and gold H&M coat similar to this one from Zara. I also can’t seem to budge from elements of menswear-inspired styles, which is apparent in these classic flats. Amongst all my other worn-in black leather shoes, these Sigerson Morrison pointed flats have to be my new favorite item. Complementing my minimalistic nature are some delicate gold rings and earrings that I switch around every once in a while with the occasional addition of a cool knuckle ring—I just can’t go without some gold accents.
But, enough about what I’m into! This semester I can’t wait to highlight the personal style of all the Fashionistos at my school, and hopefully inspire some male readers as well as some girls like me who take inspiration from the refined lines and modern simplicity of menswear. Thanks for reading! I’m looking forward to a fun and fashionable semester of LET’S HEAR IT FOR THE BOYS, Tuesdays here at CollegeFashionista!
