STYLE GURU BIO: Kaitlyn Curnow

Hi there, Fashionistas/os!

My name is Kaitlyn but I’m also known as Kait by my girlfriends and social media accounts. I’m a Public Relations Major at Virginia Commonwealth University, approaching my final semester and entering the “real world” come this December. In addition to writing for CollegeFashionista, my time throughout the semester will be occupied with class, working at Mango Salon and interning for a local marketing, branding and PR agency in Richmond. This is my second semester being apart of the CollegeFashionista team and I’m thrilled to be returning.

Growing up I never knew what I wanted to be. My friends would talk about their aspirations of becoming doctors, teachers and astronauts when they got older but none of that ever sounded appealing to me. I couldn’t quite put my finger on what job I wanted to one day have, but I always knew I didn’t want the typical “9-5” in a cubicle and wanted something I could be creative in. As far back as I can remember, the things I’ve been passionate about were writing, fashion and beauty and working with people. Pursuing a public relations degree in college seemed nothing less than fitting. My absolute dream job is to do PR focused around or related to fashion and beauty. Yes, naturally I adore Kelly Cutrone and Aliza Licht. They’re PR goddesses and give RAD advice.

Aside from my love of embracing being an absolute girl, I actually really hate chick flicks. I could recite lines from mob movies like Casino and Goodfellas but I’ve never even watched The Notebook all the way through. (Girl fail, I know.) I love listening to music and prefer to do that over watching TV any day. If I could pick another era to have lived in I would go back to the ’70s because of how amazing the music and clothes were. My diet would consist of pasta and cannolis on a regular basis if it were acceptable and I definitely drink more coffee than water.

My style is usually chic and boho with a hint of glam and rock ‘n’ roll. I wear a lot of black and like to accessorize with statement necklaces or layering different pieces for a more bohemian look. I turn to Nicole Richie, Jessie James Decker and recently Olivia Palermo for outfit and beauty inspiration. All of their individual styles are completely different, but each represent aspects of what I like for my own combined style and personality.

Being in such a diverse campus like Richmond, it’s awesome getting to see the variation in peoples’ taste and what’s trending. I’m so looking forward to writing more this semester with CollegeFashionista and can’t wait to give you guys a glimpse into my city.
