STYLE GURU BIO: Julia DePalma

Hello, Fashionistas and Fashionistos! My name is Julia DePalma and I’d like to welcome and thank you for visiting my corner of CollegeFashionista! I am a sophomore at Kent State University and am majoring in fashion design with minors in visual journalism and marketing that keep me awake way past when I should be. When I am not drawing until five a.m. or working in the studio during my nine hour sewing sprees, I am probably walking across my beautiful campus to the studio in preparation for a sewing spree. I enjoy pilates, baking desserts with friends, planning out my travels, kayaking and long walks on the beach in my small amounts of spare time. The latter only happen when I come home to Rhode Island. I’m looking forward to another wonderful semester with CollegeFashionista and am so excited to have each of you along for the journey.

Fashion is the strongest and truest of my passions. I decided in third grade that I would be a fashion designer and have had my heart set on that solitary goal ever since. I love everything about design from the way a fabric falls over a mannequin, to the beautiful sense of confidence exuded by a woman wearing the perfect look as she struts down the street. There are few things in the world more powerful than that kind of confidence, and I am determined to help women feel the same way every single time they open their respective closets.

Where my own style is concerned, it depends on my mood. Black is a constant, mainly because I’m lazy, but it’s also consistently sophisticated and beautiful. I am usually very preppy and often love a bohemian touch. Most of my inspiration comes from my travels–I have spent a lot of time in Europe visiting family and it would be ludicrous not to be affected by that. My style staples are centered upon ballet flats and mismatched prints and textures.

I can’t wait to spend this upcoming semester searching for trends and street styles to share with each of you from my amazing university (the fashion majors never disappoint). Ohio is a beautiful place and I have been pleasantly surprised by the fashion that I have found here; I hope you will all feel as inspired by the creativity and style as I do each day. I’ll see you all soon with my latest updates! Thank you again for reading, lovelies!
