My name is Josh and I’m really looking forward to writing for CollegeFashionista this coming semester. I’m about to start my first year of university studying a triple major in Media and Communications, Art History and French at the University of Melbourne after a year of studying dance at arts school. I also just came back from a volunteer teaching position in Nepal, which was amazing despite the fact I tried to rock hiking pants for a month.
I have been interested in fashion since I was little (and kidnapped my sister’s Barbies for tasteful makeovers) and I am thrilled to be writing LET’S HEAR IT FOR THE BOYS every Tuesday. Guys in Melbourne have a superb sense of style and I can’t wait to share it! I’ve always favoured a fairly preppy look myself—I’ve got a thing for a well cut blazer and a boat shoe—but I am excited to be writing about a whole range of styles: from punk-glamour, to boho-chic… although if we’re honest with ourselves, boho-chic kind of died off in the mid noughties, didn’t it?
Great style to me is not really about what look someone is trying to pull off or even what brand their clothes are—it’s all in the delivery of what’s on their back. I’m a massive fan of Anna Della Russo because of her attitude. She believes in her art (which happens to be fashion) and therefore can rock a latex mini with a fur coat.
For me, the great thing about street style is that it captures a person, not only the clothes. Clothes are an extension of our personalities and there are an amazing range of clothes and personalities out there in the world.
I look forward to getting to meet some of them in this coming semester.
