STYLE GURU BIO: Joselyn Castro

Hi, my name is Joselyn Castro, but you can call me Jos! This will be my first semester as a Style Guru this spring. Words cannot express how eager I am to begin this opportunity. I am currently a freshman at LIM College, majoring in management and concentrating in fashion media. In the fashion industry, I am very into the whole idea of being yourself and being able to express that with what you wear and embracing creativity. So what is my personal style? I am fun, but I also like the idea of being simple and being able to stand out. Fashion is my type of lifestyle, it aligns with my personal style, aesthetics, visual design and music.

So here’s my story: I am fascinated by a world full of innovation and diversity. New York City has become the supporting platform to reaching my fullest potential and taking a hold of my dreams. Growing up in a small town in New Jersey, a sense of comfortability and biased energies rooted over almost every brain in the area into thinking that what was in that idle town was enough to define a person. In spite of all that, there was an underlying rage of ambition awaiting to be liberated in a world where I can become free to express myself through fashion. I am proud enough to say that I have chosen LIM, in a city with endless hunger and possibilities to improve who I am and allow me to take advantage of the infinite resources available within a diverse community.

I would definitely say I will always go for a vintage look, I love the idea of bringing back styles and putting it into your own. As you can see in my photos, I’m into high-waisted pants, which I feel, it makes an outfit become unique. If you were to enter my closet, you would definitely see my simplicity and vintage collections. Another type of top that I adore are turtlenecks. Whether it’s oversized, fitted, bodysuits or even a dress, I don’t mind. If it’s a turtleneck, I’ll take it. To me it’s a thing for fall, winter and beyond. Like I’ve said, I love the idea of being simple but standing out and one trend that I feel follows this particular statement is the socks with sandals look. The beauty of this look is that one can make their personal style run wild.

Being a city girl has drastically shaped the person I am today. It’s led me to take advantage of the endless amount of resources that will direct me to the path that I hope to follow. In a society full of distractions, controlling my focus is the intention of accessing all the resources. After all, there is no such thing as having enough resources. As a matter of fact, joining interesting activities, clubs, and even internships, will maintain my focus in the world of fashion. With this, I will become more set in my passion for fashion and visualizing my goal won’t seem so far away anymore.
