I’m Jordan, a self-proclaimed fashion fanatic trying to forge my own career in the fashion industry. As a sophomore marketing communications major at Emerson College, this is my first semester with CollegeFashionista. I’m so excited to start scouting out Fashionistas/os on Emerson’s campus.
I’ve always been a city girl, but moving away from my hometown, Atlanta, to attend school in Boston, was a pretty big change. One of the first things I noticed upon my arrival in Boston was the difference in the way people dressed. I was definitely not in Georgia anymore, but I couldn’t have been more excited for the change in scenery. Students at Emerson are always trying new things and following the latest trends in anything and everything from fashion to video editing technologies. After being at Emerson for over a year now, I’m still constantly amazed by my peers, the work they produce, and the campus I get to observe everyday.
When it comes to my personal style, I’m definitely influenced by more feminine, sophisticated pieces, but try to contrast those with edgier accents and accessories. My style is changing and evolving, but I think I’ll always have a little southern sophisticate at the root of my wardrobe. I’m endlessly on the lookout for inspiration. Whether it is found in, fashion shows, an art exhibit or even a street mural, that feeling of being inspired is what fuels and drives my love for creativity. Olivia Palermo, Leandra Medine and the Olsen twins, are all inspirations for my personal style. Another source of inspiration for me is the past. That may sound strange, but I absolutely adore history and am fascinated with all things vintage—especially when it comes to fashion. Some of my favorite time periods are the 1920s, for the opulent beading and flattering drop-waist silhouette, as well as the modern and simplistic, yet bold nature of clothing in the 1960s. I love taking trends from the past, and interpreting them in a modern way.
Fashion, I believe, is one of the most beautiful and powerful forms of personal expression. A form of fashion that is becoming more and more powerful in dictating the latest trends is street style. What better way to share the amazing style of Emersonians than through an awesome street style website like CollegeFashionista? I’ve always really looked to fashion bloggers and street style blogs for inspiration and trends, so I feel very lucky to be working with CollegeFashionista this semester. I hope that you too will be inspired by the fashions of students from around the world!
