STYLE GURU BIO: John Wong

Hi guys. My name’s John Wong, and I am a broadcast journalism student at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.  I’ve always been drawn to the world of media and being able to get my ideas out there, but at the same time, my love of fashion has never gone out of style. Being able to combine the two and share my work with you guys is the greatest marriage there is, and I can’t wait to share so much with you guys.

To put it in short, I would describe my style as casual with a hint of sophistication, a little bit of high fashion-meets-street. I’m all about not only looking good, but also being comfortable.  However, I will admit if I have to sacrifice some comfort to slay an ensemble, I might just have to do it. Also, I’m incredibly fascinated with New York City, so if you see me on the street, in the classroom, in the office or at the store, I’ll most likely be rocking a ton of black. You know how it goes.

For this look, I wanted to showcase a casual-cool look for the warmer summer weather we’ve been blessed with in recent months. What better way to do it than a vintage concert tee, some dope skinny jeans and killer shoes/accessories? I wore one of my favorite artists for this look, the incomparable Tupac Shakur (may he rest in peace), and paired it with some skinny jeans I found at a boutique in my college town. I love the silhouette of a looser fitting tee paired with some skin-clinging bottoms. The chestnut-hued suede Chelsea boots scream, “I’m with the band” and the leather drawstring backpack tie it all together, and give this look a sophisticated downtown vibe to it. I kept it simple with accessories this time, and wore a rose gold watch, even though we all know it’s just for show, since cool kids don’t operate on anybody else’s schedule but their own. I’m just kidding.

Hope you like what you see here, and I can’t wait to share more with you guys!
