Hello, CollegeFashionista! My name is Jill Noeh and I am a sophomore at the University of Michigan majoring in Communications. This summer will be my first semester writing for CollegeFashionista and I am excited to share what I love with you!
I am originally from Chicago, Illinois, but will be writing to you from New York City. This summer I am interning at a FreshNeck, an e-commerce site focusing on men’s accessories. Not only am I excited for my internship, but I am also eager to make new friends!
At Michigan, my fashion inspiration comes from my involvement in SHEI Magazine. SHEI is a student-run fashion publication that has helped me translate my passion for fashion into something tangible. Whether assisting at photo shoots or planning fashion shows, my experiences at SHEI have helped me gain a better understanding of the industry.
My friends and family are surprised when I tell them I hope to pursue a career in fashion. Growing up, I was a total tomboy and refused put on a dress or anything pink. When middle school rolled around, my life was completely altered when I heard about designer Tory Burch’s transformation from tomboy to fashion icon. Once my grandmother introduced me to her amazing closet, I never turned back. Inspired by both Burch’s success and my grandma’s elaborate wardrobe, I became immediately obsessed with magazines like Vogue and Harper’s Bazaar.
Recently, I have tackled a new endeavor, creating my own fashion blog. This not only allows me to share my sense of style with the world, but it helps me to better understand what inspires my fellow Fashionistas/os. This season, my favorite pieces are circular shades and anything chambray.
Despite my radical transformation, sports are still close to my heart. I played soccer for fifteen years and continue to release my stress through morning runs and spin classes. In the fall, you can find me at The Big House, cheering on the Michigan football team or, in the winter, supporting the Chicago Blackhawks at the Madhouse on Madison.
My recent travels to South Africa, Botswana, Israel, Italy and Spain have fostered my interest in the fashion world. My experiences in these foreign countries have taught me to appreciate fashion because it is constantly emerging. I loved browsing markets for local textiles, fabrics and foods. I hope to travel in the future and hopefully study abroad my junior year in Europe.
I am so excited about joining the CollegeFashionista family and I cannot wait to see what this summer brings!
