STYLE GURU BIO: Jesus Calo

Greetings! My name is Jesus Calo and I am a graduating senior this semester representing Florida Gulf Coast University. I have been journaling ever since I can remember and I have been looking for an opportunity to expand my writing. I am very excited to be posting about a subject that is so vibrant. Currently, I am majoring in Communication with a concentration in Public Relations. As if that is not enough writing, I am also minoring in Philosophy. I started college after a gap year spending time to cultivate my acting resume. I began studying up North and transferred back home to Southwest Florida for my last three years. Fast-forwarding to present day as I patiently wait for December, I am networking with PR agencies located both in the East and West coasts.

When it comes to fashion, I believe in cultivating your sense of style by trying out different fits and exploring individuality. For the last two years, I have been working for The Gap as a sales associate and Brand Ambassador. I can say working in a company where their motto is to “wear your passion,” allows the discovery of what makes me look and feel good. My best friend Christy Pagoni (who actually turned me over to CollegeFashionista – I’m even featured in some of her articles) interns for L.Allen, LLC – a local fashion designer in Tallahassee. I had the privilege of being involved with assisting her with the entire production supporting Tallahassee Fashion Week in 2014.

While I certainly have a more casual approach to my clothing style, I love an opportunity to really dress up. As a male, I am excited to introduce my perspective because I still have a lot to discover, even as a Style Guru. Living in Florida, dressing in the latest trends may pose difficult when fall and winter seasons come due to the heat, but I certainly aim to dress appropriately for any occasion while finding what works in humidity and what does not.

Some last minute details about me: My favorite color is blue – in various hues. I enjoy nature and hiking when I get the opportunity to treat myself. I ran a 5K this past Fourth of July and I am planning on a half marathon for New Years’ Day. My go-to look involves a plaid button-down and dark denim and I believe the secret weapon to finalizing any outfit is a smile best worn brightly.
