STYLE GURU BIO: Jessica Trinidad

Hi fellow Fashionistas/os! I’m Jessica, a fun-loving student at Elon University in North Carolina. Originally hailing from the south shore of Long Island, I’m definitely quite the New York gal. I love the bustling city lifestyle, quiet twilight strolls in Central Park and the high-fashion lifestyle that the city offers. To be honest, I consider myself to be the Charlotte (Sex and The City reference anyone?) of my friends, style and all! After moving down to the South, I eventually swapped my mostly dark and neutral wardrobe for splashes of colors and patterns, taking on a preppy look with a bit of a New York edge.

I get most of my fashion inspiration from fashion blogger Julia Engel of Gal Meets Glam. Personally, I think her style is absolutely flawless, chic and timeless, sticking primarily to a mix of both dark and light neutral hues in order to create super fab and stylish outfits. I’ve always been drawn to looks that embody a sense of timeless fashion (think Burberry) which I find Julia always embodies and which I hope to recreate in my own personal style.

As I mentioned earlier, my style took a drastic change in recent years; the move from New York to North Carolina had me noticing a lot of new trends that I had never seen or noticed before and was really excited to finally try out. I think a huge part of finding your personal style is exploring new trends that you find and taking inspiration from fashion icons or bloggers whose style you have never personally tried out before. I’ve definitely done this recently and have finally found my own voice and personal confidence in fashion which has carried over into my developing abilities in graphic design. Finding your voice in fashion can define your personal style so that you feel confident in who you are and how you represent yourself!

My style advice would be to include a dark skinny jean, typically by Flying Monkey or Just Black, a light, neutral colored sweater, black booties and a wool peacoat to top it off—it’s the perfect ensemble! In the pictures above, I’m sporting a more casual outfit, featuring Flying Monkey ripped skinny jeans paired with this lovely cross-body kate spade bag to go for a stroll with some friends in Central Park.

This upcoming summer I’ll be in New York, so style on, Elon University, and be sure to check out my articles every Thursday here at CollegeFashionista!
