Hi, everyone! My name is Jessica and I am a sophomore at New York University. This will be my third semester writing for CollegeFashionista. However, this will be my first time writing during the summer and first time writing from abroad. I will be studying in London and more importantly will be documenting the latest fashion trends UK style.
As much as I love NYC, summertime in the Big Apple is not all sunshine and roses (literally). I am a bi-coastal girl and have spent countless summers in 90+ degree heat dying for an air conditioner — anywhere. Needless to say I am ecstatic for the opportunity to discover a new place through a fashion lens. I am a traveler at heart, mostly due to my curious spirit. This is owed to my grandparents who have traveled to every place imaginable and made it their goal for me to do just the same. Like me, my grandfather is a photographer. As I watched him snap photos of amazing places, people and things, I knew I wanted to follow in his footsteps. To quote Karl Lagerfeld, “What I like about photographs is that they capture a moment that’s gone forever, impossible to reproduce.” After watching my grandfather, I knew I not only wanted to experience amazing things, but make those moments last forever.
While I would not necessarily call myself a fashionista, I would say I have a clear cut personal style. For those of you who have read my blogs and for those who will begin reading, I am a big believer in this. For me, your personal style provides an opportunity for individuality to shine through whereas fashion is often associated with the runway. I believe having your own style allows us to use fashion as a tool for discovery and growth. Through my blogs, I feature men and women who accomplish this.
I would call my style boho chic with a vintage edge. I am a big believer in hand-me-downs (yes, you heard me right). When in doubt, go through mom’s closet, and when you’re really feeling ambitious, head on over to grandma’s. I love vintage pieces because they make me feel as if I always have a piece of my family traveling with me. My boho influence comes from my inner Cali girl. Give me a flowy or a hi-Lo skirt and you may not see me for a couple of days.
I could not be more thrilled to continue writing for CollegeFashionista this summer as I embark to the home of fish and chips and people driving on the left. Stay tuned for my FASHION FROM ABROAD articles every Friday!
