STYLE GURU BIO: Jessica Broderick

Hey everyone! My name is Jessica Broderick and I’m a junior at SUNY Oneonta in upstate New York. I’m studying Fashion Merchandising in a 3-1 program with FIT. I’m a semester ahead, so this fall is my last semester at Oneonta, which is really bittersweet but also exciting! Since it is my last semester I’m really thrilled to be one of a few style gurus on campus! Our fashion program is really popular at Oneonta and you’ll always see the best Fashionista/o walking to class. Don’t get me wrong, we all have those days when we throw on leggings and a sweatshirt to get through the chilly days of upstate New York. But, when it is a nice day you’ll see all the latest trends walking around campus and I’m so excited to be able to report on those trends for CollegeFashionista!

I think it is really important to follow a career path that you love and fashion is something I’ve loved since I took my first fashion class in 9th grade. Learning all about different careers and the ins and outs of the fashion industry sparked something in me and ever since then I was sure I wanted to pursue a career in fashion. My goal is to live in New York City and work as a fashion buyer for a big department store or designer. I basically want to be Rachel Green from Friends. Being able to work in such an important industry, meeting new people and having the opportunity to travel is such a thrill for me and I cannot wait to get started.

My long-term goal is to eventually open my own small, local fashion boutique (after I save up a small fortune, of course). I love the feeling you get when you walk into a small boutique, like Francesca’s or a local store in a quaint little town; it kind of feels like walking into your very own closet. I would love to open my own boutique and give other girls that same warm and welcoming feeling.

For my STYLE GURU BIO, I really wanted to capture what my style is and what I most like to wear. I live in upstate New York, and it is finally starting to get chilly (yay!), so I was able to wear pants. Fall is by far my favorite season and I love styling outfits for the chilly weather! For some reason I always find myself reaching towards navy and burgundy clothes when I’m shopping. Navy is definitely my neutral. I thought this outfit perfectly captured my favorite season, colors and style. My personal style is very classic, preppy and feminine. I’m also obsessed with necklaces, so 8 out of 10 times you can probably find me wearing one!

Thanks for reading- I cannot wait for a RAD fall!
