I can be a really determined person when I want to be. One time I wore a pair of shoes that was one size too small for weeks, through blisters and red toes, until they stretched to fit me. They are now one of my favourite pairs of shoes (and coincidentally, the pair I’m wearing in my photo). Now you know that strange fashion-related fact about me (I’m a bit kooky), let’s get a bit better acquainted so that’s not left as your first impression!
My name is Jessica-Anne (Jess for short); I’m a third and final year Journalism student at RMIT University in Australia. If you’ve been following my posts on CollegeFashionista over the last two semesters, welcome back. I know I look a little different since last time, as I’ve ditched my signature thick-framed red specs for contacts today and my normally straight bangs have grown out. If this is the first time we’ve met—you probably won’t know what I’m on about but—hello there! It’s very nice to meet you.
I’m a fashion and beauty blogger over on my blog Taken By Surprise and I also make and sell handmade flower crowns on my Etsy shop CrownedByFlowers. So it’s kind of perfect that I’m doing ACCESSORIES REPORT this semester, as I really do adore a good accessory. There’s something about adding a little extra something to an outfit to make it pop.
If you rummaged through my closet, you probably wouldn’t find my favourite accessories in there among my collection. If I really love a certain piece, you can tell because it’s thrown onto my bed, hanging off my vanity mirror or strewn across my table. In other words, they’re in easy reach! If you’re wondering what pieces are currently on high rotation, there’s a bejeweled watch with a crown on the face that I bought brand new for $7 at a Salvos store, a statement chain and spike necklace, which one of my best friends gave me for my birthday that I love pairing with a collared shirt, and, of course, flower crowns.
There are so many ways to accessorise an outfit. Wearing accessories is usually viewed as a really girly thing, but if you’re not a traditional girly girl or you’re a Fashionisto, there are still plenty of ways for you to get your accessory on. From a printed pair of socks, to ear cuffs, to a unique phone case, there are heaps to choose from.
There is something to keep in mind when accessorizing: Wearing too many at once can overpower an outfit. My top tip is to choose one statement item and rock that. If in doubt, keep calm and listen to Chanel, who famously said, “Before you leave the house, look in the mirror and take one thing off.” You go, Madam Coco!
That’s all for now. See you next Friday for my first post!
