STYLE GURU BIO: Jess Butler

Hey everyone, my name is Jess and this is my first time as a Style Guru here at CollegeFashionista. I am a rising senior at Rutgers University, New Brunswick majoring in Communication and minoring in Entrepreneurship and Human Resource Management. Attending such a diverse university has definitely opened my eyes to the endless possibilities that fashion and beauty have to offer.

Last semester, I was given the opportunity to intern for Push The Envelope PR, a fashion and beauty public relations organization. Through this, I learned and experienced how clothing and accessories end up on our favorite celebrities in magazines. I would love to take this “behind-the-scenes” style of work and take it to the front lines. This summer, I am ready to expand my knowledge of the fashion and beauty industry through writing for CollegeFashionista!

Fashion has always been something that has sparked my creativity. A bold color or elaborate print can communicate how I feel on any given day. I am a personal fan of neon—not only is it obnoxious, but it is also a definite mood booster! My style is pretty eclectic, and I usually bounce around between trends and personal favorites. I am also a big believer in building upon simplicity; adding a few ornate pieces to a basic outfit can really pull a look together.

In this look, I am showcasing my admiration for pops of color and timeless pieces. A classic shift dress, no matter what color or pattern, is also a must in everyone’s wardrobe. Shift dresses are great for almost every body type and keep things classy. This dress is a audacious take on a fashion staple. I accessorized with a few of my neutral bracelets that go with just about every outfit. To toughen up the outfit a bit (and because it was one of those chilly summer days), I topped it off with a sleek leather jacket. All it takes is one statement (my blinding dress) partnered with some classics in order to look put together.

In my spare time, I can be found surfing YouTube, looking for exciting things to do with my friends or on the search for coffee (I’m a Dunkin kind of girl). Penguins are my favorite animals, but dinosaurs come close. In another life, I must have been an archeologist digging up dinosaurs, mummies and ancient ruins. I keep a lot of pop culture references in my back pocket too. I hope to inspire and be inspired!
