STYLE GURU BIO: Jennifer Jenkins

Hey Fashionistas! Autumn is finally kicking in, if not with the sweltering temperatures, then definitely with the fashion! In my opinion, fall is the best time to be a Style Guru (although any time is fantastic). I say this because, with so many outstanding designers putting their collections out on September’s runways, there will be a lot of fashion forecasts to be made and noteworthy street style moments plastered on fashion blogs and online magazines. Not to mention, we have Vogue’s September Issue. Loafers are a wardrobe essential (finally) and pumpkin spice lattes are in the foreseeable future.

Of course, fall also means less beach excursions and more study time, but I look at the hustle and bustle of fall as positive. Being in school means more opportunities to connect with other students and faculty who are involved in your industry. Plus, there are more occasions to dress up, such as formals, game days, interviews for internships and even class. While I see most students wearing T-shirts with shorts or leggings to the classroom, it only makes seeing fashionable students more rewarding. Not that I would assume you were unfashionable to going to class in “loungewear.” I have definitely had my fair share of sloppy days. But, like other stylish students that I know, if you want to work in fashion, you should dress the part. Also, if you truly love the industry, dressing up is fun. It is one of the few times when the six-year-old me, who would put on eight princess dresses and tutus per day, resurfaces.

Aside from fueling my fashion addiction, CollegeFashionista has allowed me to interact with other people who are interested in fashion, social media and writing. Whether through fashion talks on Twitter or campus connections, CollegeFashionista always promises opportunities to grow as an aspiring fashion journalist with the exchange of ideas and experiences. Although I have always been drawn to preppy pieces, for fall especially, I have learned to appreciate the many more trends that the fashion community has to offer.

All in all, I hope to discover more fashionable students this semester and improve in my writing style. There is always more to learn from the booming fashion industry, so let’s just hope that I can take that information to use toward a #RAD semester!
