I’m Jenni Thorman. I am a student at RMIT in the city of Melbourne, Australia.
Melbourne is the heart of Australian arts and culture; a filthy-rich liquorice assortment of the countries finest artists and musicians, choosing to exist harmoniously in Melbourne, having stemmed from all over this gigantic continent. And that (hopefully) includes me.
I grew up in a small town called Ulladulla, on the south coast of New South Wales. Ulladulla is an Australian aboriginal name; it means Safe Harbour. But with the city lights beaming on the horizon, beckoning me, I moved to Sydney and eventually to Melbourne. I am now studying for bachelor of design in fashion.
Like most little girls fashion was something I had always dreamed of doing. It’s hard work, and not as glamorous as I would like to think may think, but it is challenging and rewarding, and I adore that I get to study at one of the best Universities (especially for fashion), in Australia.
One of my greatest loves about living in Melbourne, is the great cycling routes. I can essentially ride to and from any part, in, or around the city. With pathways specifically designed for cycling and very few hills, it’s the ideal method of transit. Cycling does have a habit of deciphering what and how you wear, which is why you often see me in lace-up platform shoes or creepers.
Even though I ride a bike, I still like to appear feminine, so I don’t often wear pants or jeans. Instead I opt for a high-waisted skirt (often with pleats, aline or circle skirt so that I have room to move) and tights. I still haven’t worked out how to avoid helmet hair!
My favourite things to do are: colour blocking, perusing the plethora of Melbourne Vintage stores or brightening my day with a vivid pink or red lipstick—apply constantly.
I also love artists’ markets especially when traveling overseas, English muffins, UGG boots, leather goods, dark chocolate with chewy bits, martinis and cute boys.
So now you all know a little more about me, I’m so excited about being a CollegeFashionista, and I can’t wait to read your comments and reviews each Wednesday when I present a Fashionista or Fashionisto. Until then amigos!
