STYLE GURU BIO: Jen Petrova

My name is Jen Petrova. I’m a sophomore at Claremont McKenna College, and I define style as an individual’s artistic expression of their personality, a story of their life, and a wearable form of confidence that makes them feel flawless. And let me tell you, the outfit I’m wearing in the picture, for sure makes me feel just that!

To me, an individual does not have to stick to one specific style or trend; fashion is about experimenting and wearing whatever, whenever you want. At this moment in time, I’m feeling great in clothes that look a little dressed up. I’m wearing a pretty and prim textured mini skirt, a beautiful black classic ruffle sweater, a tuxedo-style, trench wool coat, and I paired it all with some brown booties and sheer black tights. I love this look because it makes me feel put together, yet it is so comfortable. The mix of brown and black is somewhat unexpected, but I love mixed colors, fabrics, or styles that do not necessarily go together. If you remember one thing about my style and me, it is that I like to push the limit and try unusual combinations or pieces. I absolutely love the feeling of feeling good when you thought the outfit/look wouldn’t look good; it makes me feel beautiful and empowered knowing I do things a little bit differently than the status quo.

Which brings me to my next point; fashion is a way of life. A life full of the ability to express yourself in a manner that gives room for interpretation and appreciation. Just because your style is not mainstream (or even if it is) there will always be those who judge. Everyone has their own taste so don’t let the opinions of others bother you! Wear whatever you want as long as it is exactly what you want. Once again, fashion is a way of life… it is YOUR life. Now go on, rock whatever you want, and make sure you KNOW you’re absolutely owning every single inch of that outfit and yourself. My number one go-to style is confidence. Make that yours too!
