STYLE GURU BIO: Jazzmin Martinez

September 2nd, 2015 at 2:10am

Hello friends! My name is Jazzmin Martinez, but most people call me Jazz! I am a senior at Humboldt State University majoring in Communication. I jumped around a bit with majors at first and made it halfway through the Film department before I realized that Communication was where I belonged.

My friends and family know me as the shopaholic. It’s a name I’ve learned to own and love, seeing as though it’s a name I can also say I’ve earned. I have a photographic memory for clothing items and prices, blessed with a skill any retail employee would kill for. No matter what I’m doing in one hand, I am online shopping on my phone in the other. My friends and family come to me with clothing requests, and I can write down which stores to shop at and how much they can expect to spend. It’s a gift, but it also has its price. On the bright side, I have actually turned my love for shopping into a career. From selling pieces of my closet and treasured thrift store finds, I have been able to financially support all my spending habits (and my credit card bills, cough-cough).

My style is constantly bouncing back and forth between a little mix of bohemian all the way to ‘90s grunge. I absolutely adore ripped jeans, bomber jackets and anything with stripes. This floral romper is just the feminine touch I need to balance out my leather jacket and chunky booties. The little hint of boho under something tomboy and tough is always a classic style mix up, and it is one of my favorite ways to transition summer pieces into fall staples.

Even as my eye for trends changed with my personality, I noticed that my personal style has always been about one thing: comfort. On any down day you can always find me in a pair of ripped jeans, a T-shirt and ankle booties. My love for fashion is always taking new inspirations wherever I go. From Fashionistas on the street to my favorite models on Instagram, I can take any outfit of the day and turn it into something I can call my own. Some of my biggest fashion inspirations include Lennon Stella and YouTuber Lauren Luthringshausen.

I am so beyond excited for this fall to be a Style Guru and to share what love I have for fashion and style with all of you! Cheers to flannel season, pumpkin flavored coffee and to a RAD semester!
