STYLE GURU BIO: Jasmine Perillo

Hello, friends, fellow Fashionistas and those who accidentally found their way to my article—stick around and I promise I’ll try not to bore you! If you don’t know already, my name is Jasmine and I am a junior at New York University majoring in Marketing and Finance. I may have always been a city girl at heart, but this Fashionista was born and raised on the other side of the country in Phoenix, Arizona. It has definitely been an adjustment, but I am so glad to finally be able to experience all four seasons!

I have always had a passion for art, whether that be drawing, painting, photography or my favorite, the beloved wearable art that is fashion! It all started when I first began picking out my own outfits. This included hours at the mall followed by outfit preparations on my mannequin every night in my room. The school hallways were my runways and my peers were my audience. You might even say I took it a little too serious when my parents came home one night after parent-teacher conferences and found out that I told my fifth grade teacher that green just wasn’t her color. Oops. But hey, I was just trying to help! From then on, whenever I would be watching movies or just be out and about, what caught my attention most was what people were wearing and the styles they were sporting. I even challenged myself junior year of high school not to repeat an outfit all year long, and although I may have worn a blouse twice or a pair of shorts here and there, I can proudly say that I never left the house in the same outfit combination! Someone must have noticed, being that I was voted “Best Dressed” in my student government class. So it was only fitting that I take myself, and my wardrobe, to one of the fashion capitals of the world, New York City, for college.

New York is amazing in that I feel like I’m living a live fashion show everywhere I walk. It’s an endless source of inspiration given the amount of well dressed people—and dogs—who crowd the bustling streets. My wardrobe has changed—and grown—since moving here, but I haven’t succumbed to the all-black New Yorker look just quite yet. My style can’t be described in one way because I like to do a little bit of everything, but for the most part, it usually consists of neutral colors reinforced by a few staple, and quite necessary, items I’ve invested in such as a nice handbag and watch. Because like my good friend Taylor Swift once said, “[They] never go out of style!” However, I’ve never believed that “Beauty is pain,” which is why I prefer a pair of flats or all-white Converse over heels any day!

Now that you know a little bit about me, I hope that you come back for fall fashion tips with my later posts as a Style Guru for CollegeFashionista this semester. And remember, in the words of kate spade, “It’s a far, far better thing to be overdressed than underdressed.” Until next time, Fashionista/os!
