STYLE GURU BIO: Jashlie Melgar

Hey there my fellow Fashionistas/os! My name is Jashlie Melgar, and I am an incoming sophomore at Rutgers University. I am currently enrolled in the School of Nursing and plan to be a pediatric nurse one day. This summer session is my first time writing for CollegeFashionista, and I am ecstatic. I live in an incredibly diverse and fashionable city so naturally, I just can’t wait to share some on-trend OOTDs with you all.

The reason I love fashion is because it is one of the most powerful forms of self-expression. What I wear says a lot about me and greatly impacts how I feel. That being said, I think it’s important to dress up once in a while. I don’t consider my style to fall under any category such as girly, preppy, bohemian or edgy. If anything, it’s all of the above. I love being able to dress up according to how I feel that morning. However, as much as I value fashion, comfort comes first (which is probably why my navy high-top Converse sneakers are my most worn item in my closet). Though my style is always changing, I will always love black and white. Black and white pieces are staples in my wardrobe as shown in the pictures with the little black leather bootiesfun fringed purse and basic white shorts.

Aside from fashion, I have a number of passions. My greatest passion, perhaps, is music. I’ve written songs, took music theory in high school and (fun fact) performed at Carnegie Hall and Lincoln Center. In addition to music, my other loves include cooking, dancing and self-improvement.

To keep this short and sweet like myself (I’m almost 5’2”), I’m excited to be a Style Guru because I want to inspire and be inspired by other people.
