STYLE GURU BIO: Jannat Hashmi

Coco Chanel once said, “Fashion is not something that exists in dresses only. Fashion is in the sky, in the street, fashion has to do with ideas, the way we live, what is happening.” And that is exactly why I’m here.

I’m Jannat Hashmi, an incoming freshman at Pace University in New York City, the city where every fashionista’s dreams come to life each day and night. I’m currently studying communications in hopes that one day I can work at a fashion magazine as a writer.

Growing up, my family didn’t quite understand what fashion meant to me. It’s instant language, you know? But nevertheless, they were more interested in my academic life than what I wore. And by every means, they were absolutely right in wanting me to focus on what can help me attain a better future. But once senior year of high school rolled around, I got off my big butt and realized, “Okay, I’ve picked my college, I’ve got two months left until graduation, what am I missing in my life?” And I realized it was what I never got to explore: fashion. So I began something life-altering… my blog. To Wear is To Love is my heart’s work and being able to spend time writing for fashion lovers like me is just what I’ve always wanted to do. And now that I’m here on CollegeFashionista as well, I get to do it even more, and I’m so unbelievably thrilled.

My style is very minimalist-chic. I love black, white, gray and everything in between. Being able to transform looks from day to night is my forte, and so long as I’m able to pair some faux fur with it, you bet I’ll be wearing it. The outfit I’m wearing in the photo gallery is a perfect example of a look you can rock when you’re going out for a cute lunch as well as date night. The clutch adds a little pop of color to the black and white ensemble and gives it a lot of character. Here’s a similar neon clutch, a similar pair of leather pants, and a similar mesh top if you want to recreate the look!

I can’t believe I’ve gotten this opportunity Pace’s fall fashion in New York City! This season, I’m really excited to see a few new and returning trends: braided denim, deep-colored suede and leather booties.

I cannot wait to share all the exciting looks I find at my school with you, and I hope you all follow me on this amazing journey here on CollegeFASHIONISTA! Tune in every first of the month for some really #RAD articles on my page!
