STYLE GURU BIO: Janelle Canopy

I have grown up in the same small town since I was born and the only real experience I have had with fashion is what I have personally exposed myself to. I wasn’t around malls and fashion ads growing up, so all the knowledge I have acquired over the years is what I have researched and read. I am beyond excited to be working with CollegeFashionista this semester as a University of Illinois Style Guru.

Over the years, I have developed my own personal style that consists of masculine clothes with a feminine kick. My closet just happens to be filled with male staples and a dress here or there. I like my dad’s thick sweaters, men’s button-downs and over half of my closet just happens to be some shade of black. Skinny jeans and my black moto boots are my go-tos and you won’t find my hands without a ring… or four.

Now a sophomore at the University of Illinois, I have found my major, made friends, and refined my love for fashion. One day I want to work for a fashion publication and every move I make is giving me the tools to reach my goals. I’m super excited for the upcoming semester and what it will bring. Being a Style Guru is just the start for me and the long road ahead. I can’t wait to write about the great style at Illinois and I hope that throughout this next semester I will shape my own personal style and find new inspiration from my peers at U of I. Bring it on Illini, I’ve got my camera ready!
