STYLE GURU BIO: Jamila Gordon

Hello friends! My name is Jamila Gordon and I’m a senior double majoring in Psychology and Music at Binghamton University. Brooklyn, New York, my lovely hometown, has allowed me to grasp a keen eye for exotic fashion and individuality. Being surrounded by an abundance of stylistic diversity led me to begin exploring my own creativity. I began my journey by working at Urban Outfitters and Forever 21, which exposed me to affordable high fashion and street wear. There are so many ways college students on a budget can indulge and find themselves through style. Receiving the opportunity to share this knowledge with all of you Fashionistas and Fashionistos is so thrilling!

I seek to make my personal style expressive, individualized and slightly daring. On a given summer day, you’d probably catch me wearing a flowy floral dress with huge circular alien-like sunglasses. Winter months influence me to be fashionable, yet uber comfortable. Leggings paired up with a big comfy sweater and some Dr. Martens or Bean Boots are my go-to fall/winter getup. The best thing about fashion is that so many styles exist! Grabbing bits and pieces from influential styles is the best way to mold your own individual image. Fashion really is such an individualized thing and for me, fashion means creating. It’s about molding yourself into what you feel and displaying that to the world. It’s pretty much artwork, really.

On my journey to exploring fashion and individuality, I began falling in love with photography. Capturing stylistic images is such a freeing way to hold onto modern day trends. It’s amazing to see how quickly fashion evolves and being a photographer is a fulfilling way to be apart of that. My passion for creativity led me through the doors of New York Fashion Week in the shoes of an amateur assistant photographer. That was the day I realized that capturing moments would soon become a big part of my life.

During my down time, I enjoy reading good books, writing in my journal and watching TED talks. I’m also a huge music lover and when I’m not listening to opera arias on replay, you can find me listening to an abundance of different genres. I enjoy going to concerts, music festivals and operas in the park. Overall, I just love trying new things and having a good time. Thanks for hanging out, learning a bit about me and welcoming me to the CollegeFashionista family. I can’t wait to create posts for all of my Fashionistas and Fashionistos! Cheers!
