My name is Jamie Plukas and I am going into junior year at Marist College. I am majoring in Fashion Merchandising and minoring in both Business and Math. I developed a love for fashion early in my high school years. I could be found in my room hours at a time trying on different outfits. This encouraged me to pursue this love in college professionally and learn more about the fashion world by making it my major.
Growing up in Western New York, fashion was not a huge focus for many people. Bulky winter jackets would cover up anything anyone would be wearing. When it was time for me to head of to college I needed to get away; Marist provided just enough distance and allowed me to move closer to New York City, one of the worlds largest fashion hubs. I spent three semesters at Marist and then decided it was time for me to take a leap and study abroad in Paris, France my spring semester of 2013. The trip opened my eyes to so many new things and many new trends. Within Paris, one of the fashion capitals of the world, there was fashion everywhere. The experience helped expand my knowledge of fashion all over the world.
My style has evolved over the past few years due to the experiences I have had thus far but there are always a few necessities that I like to have in my wardrobe every season. For fall these items include a good pair of skinny jeans, a bulky sweater and a pair of riding boots. These few items may serve as the base of my outfit but I love to mix things up and throw on a statement necklace to dress up a look. This combination keeps me comfy, casual and classy for class.
Despite the fact that my style has changed over time, one thing has stayed consistent: my love and passion for fashion. I am more than thrilled to be participating in CollegeFashionista this fall. Keep an eye out for my LET’S HEAR IT FOR THE BOYS column every Tuesday.
