Greetings, Fashionistas and Fashionistos! My name is James Michael Vela, a student at South Texas College pursuing a Bachelors of Applied Science in Computer and Information Technology. I am thrilled to be the first Style Guru representing my campus. I hope that you are just as excited as I am to discover the latest fashion and trends that students have incorporated into their personal style and everyday lives!
A passion that began at a very young age has evolved into a drive and determination to venture into all aspects of the world of fashion. As a child, learning how to use a sewing machine made a major impact in my life and is what originally sparked my interest in fashion. As years past, I found myself constantly flipping through the pages of countless fashion magazines as well as scrolling through many websites, gaining knowledge of the different fields and people involved in the industry.
When it comes to my style, I tend to gravitate towards basic pieces and add interest with accessories consisting of color, pattern or texture to make my outfits look complete and well styled. Living in Texas can limit my fashion choices at times, so it is essential for me to always keep comfort and functionality in mind while shopping. Having most of my clothing come from budget friendly retailers such as Gap, H&M and thrift shops, the chance to splurge on a cool watch, shoes or sunglasses is often available.
Computer technology has had a tremendous impact in the fashion industry. The combination of both has introduced fresh ideas and continues to provide opportunities for many to express themselves creatively to the masses. CollegeFashionista is the perfect example of that and as a Style Guru for the spring 2013 semester, I am extremely grateful for this wonderful opportunity and cannot wait to provide content that will inspire readers from all over the world!
