Once upon a time, there was a girl who dared to dream that she could successfully walk in her creative talents and pursue a career in the fashion arena, although she was strongly encouraged to find a “normal” career. That girl is me! I’m Jalonn Beadle. I love everything fashion embodies. Fashion allows you to do anything, say anything and conquer the world (in cute shoes, of course).
Writing for CollegeFashionista is a dream come true. This internship incorporates all of my favorite things: “spying” unique fashions, photography and capturing the latest trends.I will be writing for the FASHIONISTA/O SPOTLIGHT.Throughout the semester, I will be fashion-stalking people on my campus who share the same passion as I do – expressing their personality through style. As a sophomore Fashion Merchandising student at Kent State University, I am up for the challenge due to all of the fashionable people on campus.
I chose Kent State for its liberal arts college vibe, but with its acclaimed fashion school I knew I could gain knowledge and further my love for the fashion industry. I disliked the heat of my hometown of “Hottlanta” (Atlanta, Georgia) so I ventured out and decided to expand my winter wardrobe and move into the colder state of Ohio.
My personal style mixes high-street fashion with vintage finds topped with a classic, feminine approach. In addition, I love to adopt the latest trends to thrift store finds. When I was younger, I hated going to thrift stores because of the awful smell, but as I grew older, I learned to appreciate the value. Finding great pieces in thrift stores is a treasure, in a not-so-glamorous treasure box. I love the story behind each garment – the phrase “one man’s trash is another man’s treasure” comes to mind because it really is true! When I locate a thrift treasure, I’m in awe of how someone else could leave it behind.
I get my style inspiration from a little bit of everything in the world – from items in my closet, style icons, my best friends and inspiration in the streets, from buildings to sidewalks. Making a statement and being comfortable is important for every occasion. My favorite item is a maxi skirt. It conveys easiness, edge and class, amping up any outfit. Simple outfits are great, but going the extra mile with accessories is my favorite part. A statement necklace, killer shoes or a pop of color from a handbag make my outfits extraordinary.
Garments speak even when we’re silent. They speak volumes about us and who we are. I’m listening Kent State and I can’t wait to capture what you have to say. I’ll be bringing it to you, so that you’ll be incorporating the latest fashion trends into your everyday wardrobe.
