STYLE GURU BIO: Jaida Brinkley

Well hello there! I am Jaida Brinkley, a freshman at the University of North Texas majoring in converged broadcast media. Upon graduation I plan to work for a network as either an on-air talent or a producer, but the ultimate goal is to run my own production company and become the next Oprah Winfrey. Strong women inspire me everyday to achieve my goals and if I can be that same inspiration to a young lady well then I’ll say my life was a success.

Clearly my career goal says nothing about fashion, so why am I a Style Guru? Well, when I was younger I dreamed of becoming an artist and spent a lot of time obsessing over artists like Picasso and Andy Warhol. Eventually, fashion became my favorite form of art and my aspiration to become an artist went digital as I was introduced to video production and photography. CollegeFashionista allows for me to combine both passions, fashion and multimedia.

My personal style varies depending on what inspires me. For the look featured in this post I took a page from Audrey Hepburn’s book and was inspired by her role in the film Funny Face. I styled a classic turtleneck (1950s Paris-chic?) with my favorite and super comfortable black skinny pants. What I love about styling simple pieces is the ability to dress the look up or down, depending on the occasion. If I were going to work or an internship I would have added a stylish heel but since I spend most of my time walking through campus I went for a cool sneaker. When it comes to my personal style I prefer to keep things more minimalistic, so with my accessories I kept it simple with some stud earrings and my Michael Kors watch. Then I topped the look off with a long slouch coat.

Like all forms of art, fashion is the expression of a person’s emotions, background, and personality. I cannot wait share the different styles and personalities I find at UNT!
