STYLE GURU BIO: Holly Gustafson

Hello there, beautiful! My name is Holly Gustafson, but you can call me Holly G. I am a freshman attending Kent State University and a fashion design major. This is my first semester as a Style Guru for CollegeFashionista and I cannot be more excited to be kicking off the new semester and the new year this way!

I’ve done some writing for my high school’s online journal before, but I’m very inexperienced with photography. I did once hand draw, write, and publish my own fashion magazine for my third grade classroom, but the magazine never made it past third grade. Finding the old magazine when I was a junior in high school did however inspire me to consider the idea trying to pursue fashion as a profession. So, here I am pursuing a fashion design degree with a dream to run my own women’s wear business.

I love using fashion as a form of exploration and expression. I love trying out all sorts of different styles and I only have one “rule” for fashion: if you like it, wear it. I also love using fashion to express my mood, all-black if I’m feeling angsty, my big cheetah coat when I’m feeling very extra, and… glitter. I’m always in the mood to add something with glitter. I also believe that fashion should always be comfortable. If you’re uncomfortable in your clothes, it’s going to show on your face and in your body language.

Throwing together this very extra, but also extremely comfy outfit was super easy. It’s super chilly out, which also means everyone is going to have their heat turned up. This makes it really important to wear something that will work in indoor and outdoor environments. To achieve this, I put on some black opaque nylons with my favorite black long sleeve dress. The long sleeve black dress is thin enough that it won’t leave me overheated indoors and the nylons give my skin a tiny bit of protection against the cold. The oversize cheetah print faux fur coat was my number one defense against the cold and it’s one of the warmest and comfiest things I own. To break away from the dark tones of this look, I added some nude boots, pink pom-pom duster earrings, and my favorite sparkly pink choker. This look definitely draws some eyeballs, but I’m a Leo, so I’d be denying my zodiac to say that I didn’t love the attention.

Although I loved getting to relax over break, I am so excited for everything that I have going on this semester (especially my first semester being a Style Guru)! I can’t wait to share my #RAD Fashionista/o findings with everyone and to see what the rest of the Style Gurus have to share!
