STYLE GURU BIO: Hayley Pontia

Hey there Fashionistas and Fasionistos! I just finished my sophomore year and couldn’t be happier. This year has been one of the best. A year that allowed me to have some fun with my style experimenting with all the interesting (and surprising) trends and a year of just all around greatness.

I discovered that my style will always change, but one thing is constant: the importance of comfort. I look and feel my best when I’m wearing something that is easy to walk around in and doesn’t make me second guess my every move. I was never really into tighter clothing trends, i.e. crop tops and I’ve learned that that’s okay. You just find what works best for you and your body and work with that until you get tired of it. But I will never get tired of comfortable clothes. How could you?!

To me, this outfit encompasses all the things I love about playing around with cozy pieces. A little black dress is easily turned into a whole new outfit when you add a looser top to it. I chose this low-neck long-sleeve as a cute option instead of a jacket for those rainy summer days. The cut of the shirt is one of my favorites when paired with a higher neck underneath. Add heels for a dressier addition to the outfit or dress it down with some black slip-ons.

Simple outfits in summer are perfect because not a lot of people want to put in the effort if they are just going outside in the sweltering heat or walking around in a dreary morning rain.

I think this outfit was inspired by my years as a ballerina watching my dance instructor wearing layers upon layers of different cuts of clothing always being able to dance and sit still looking cool and composed. There was always an unsuspected femininity about whatever she was wearing and I really found that intriguing. I hope to recreate more looks in the future like this experimenting with asymmetrical lines and pastel tones.
