STYLE GURU BIO: Hannah Ziccardi

Hello, everyone! My name is Hannah Ziccardi, and this is my second semester returning as a Style Guru for CollegeFashionista. I am a junior at Mercyhurst University, which is located in Erie, Pennsylvania. If you want to know anything about Erie, just know that it snows. A lot. I am a fashion merchandising major with a communications minor. The dream is to eventually work for some sort of fashion magazine!

The term “fashion” was not always in my vocabulary. If you were to look at pictures of me when I was younger, you would most likely cringe. Between mixes of hand-me-downs from my sister to weird graphic shirts, I was bound to be wearing something resentful. I look back now and wonder why my mother even let me leave the house dressed that way.

Fortunately, my closet improved once high school came. I couldn’t even tell you how it happened. I just always had a style where I wasn’t afraid to wear what I wanted. For a solid year in elementary school, all I wore was sweatshirts and those really loud, obnoxious athletic pants that made noise every time I moved. Embarrassing, I know. But it was what I wanted to wear, so why not, right? I guess we all had that awkward middle school stage where we thought we were super cool, but in reality, we just left traces of embarrassment on Myspace.

Learning from past fashion dos and don’ts is part of what makes my career path so interesting. A lot of the outfits that I wore when I was younger are coming back into style. Fashion is always reinventing itself in so many ways.

Once I started college, I began to see all the different aspects of the fashion industry that are out there. I tested the waters with writing and journalism by creating my own blog on WordPress. I am very passionate about music, so I write about that, along with fashion and lifestyle articles here and there. My blog really helped with the whole idea of individuality and expressing my personality through fashion. Fashion is amazing in that sense. Having the ability to do what I love while still being myself is the greatest thing in the world.
