STYLE GURU BIO: Hannah Walding

Hello, fellow Fashionistas/os! My name is Hannah Walding. I’m a student in the School of Journalism and Mass Communication at the University of Iowa. All my life, I’ve been obsessed with clothes, makeup, hair…you name it! This year, I’ll be a senior and all I can say is time really does fly. However, college has given me so many chances to play with my style and has granted me countless opportunities to discover what my personal style truly is. I’ve found that although it isn’t very consistent at times, it does have a perpetual theme: simple, yet versatile.

This look is my ideal summer outfit; a flirty sundress with an oversized tote bag and simple jewelry. I love, love, love Iowa City summers! This outfit would be made complete with a pair of sunglasses while shopping around the Pedestrian Mall or sitting outside on the patios of my favorite Iowa City restaurants (which include Formosa and Mondo’s). Throughout my college years, I’ve come to fall in love with simple staples in my wardrobe. This silk dress made by Sunshine and Shadow is one of my all-time favorites. The flirty dress is an amazing, high quality staple, but the best part is that it has pockets! This beautiful, oversized Fossil bag is also one of my summer staples. It’s just the right size to fit any summer essentials. The simple gold jewelry I paired with the dress is cognizant with summer’s good vibes. I can always be seen wearing simple gold accessories throughout the summer, and I’m a firm believer in “less is more.”

Not only have I come to appreciate my simple staples, I’ve also learned to be versatile and creative with what I already have hanging in my closet. College brings about rough times on the wallet, as I’m sure you all have experienced at one time or another. This has somewhat forced me to dig deep into my style creativity, but definitely in a good way. For example, this outfit is ideal for both day and night, because I can simply throw on my favorite pair of brown Micheal Kors wedges and a clutch. Voila! It’s complete for a night out. By using what I already have in my wardrobe, I have learned to pair my basics with other not-so-basic pieces to make my style what it is today.

Although I’m still learning each and every day about my own personal style and the vast universe of fashion, the world is my runway and I work it to the best of my ability every day. I can’t wait to start my new journey as a CollegeFashionista Style Guru, while combining two things I have a huge passion for: writing and fashion!
