STYLE GURU BIO: Haley McCullum

September 1st, 2015 at 2:00am

Hey all! My name is Haley McCullum and I am a senior at the University of Minnesota studying Journalism, Theater and Religion. I grew up in the Twin Cities area and have fallen more in love with Minnesota every day. I fell in love with the people, the landscape and the style that comes with being a true Minnesotan. That is why I am super stoked to be a part of the CollegeFashionista team this fall! I have seen and followed friends from classes who were and are Style Gurus on campus, and I am so ready to join them and their trend setting ways. I am addicted to three things in life: puppies, coffee and fashion. Conveniently, all three make a lovely combination.

My style has evolved during the years but as I go deeper into my collegiate career and in life in general, it has become all about the basics. My closet is full of simple black or white T-shirts, white, black and gray oversized sweaters and cardigans. There is something so wonderful about a simple and neutral closet. I firmly believe everything can be paired to perfection with a good pair of dark wash denim jeans. I love to pair knit hats with my bright red flannels and my black biker boots are a staple in my closeted. I can almost never leave a plain white V-neck behind in a store.

I like to make my look classic and simple, but it is important to me to look chic but on a college girl budget. I love shopping for my classic dark wash denim jeans at Old Navy and my favorite V-necks I fill my closet with I look for at H&M.  But I do like a good splurge. I am a huge fan of cute, sturdy and unique accessories. I hit up local boutiques, craft fairs or even Etsy.com for my favorite necklaces and rings. I don’t wear a lot of jewelry, but when I do, it needs to be a little something different.

In the end of my college experience, I want to become a youth pastor and later serve in the Peace Corps. It’s kind of a far stretch from the fashion industry, but style can be found just about anywhere. I am so excited to be a part of the large network of trend setters and trend finders that is CollegeFashionista and finding chic and unique styles this fall. Look for my posts the first of the month and follow the latest trends and styles on the University of Minnesota campus!
