STYLE GURU BIO: Hakeem Carter

I can’t begin to express how excited I am to be involved in CollegeFashionista! While I was looking for some internships online, I came across this site and noticed all of the awesome street wear styles across the globe. I just had to be a part of that, and I am extremely grateful that I am.

My name is Hakeem Carter, and I am a prospective college freshman at Central Piedmont Community College. I will be studying Business Marketing/ Merchandising, so I plan on starting my own a business out of fashion and photography. I chose CPCC so I could transfer to East Carolina University (ECU) to study fashion design.

I am already working with numerous people in New York, which gives me a head start on what I want to do in the future as a fashion designer. CollegeFashionista is a fun and exciting way to get my foot in the door of the fashion industry in order to gain knowledge and experience for all my future endeavors. I feel that CollegeFashionista allows people to showcase their creative sides, an extremely important element in life.

My style is strongly impacted by my mood each day. Overall, I would say that my style is masculine street wear mixed with high end fashion. If I am feeling a cozy and laid back vibe one day, I might wear non-saturated colors like black or dark green. If I want to stand out, I may wear bright colors or throw on some skinny waxed denim pants. I love modern fashion because I like to stay on top of trends that suit my personal style. I’m into a lot of edgy, loose-fitted shirts.That style was influenced by Alexander Wang’s fall/winter 2014 show, which is one of my favorite collections by my all-time favorite designer, and most of Rick Owen’s shows. I tend to wear more headbands instead of hats because of my signature wild hair.

It is an honor to be working with CollegeFashionista to display all of the fashionable styles at my campus, and I look forward to working with other Fashionistas and Fashionistos.
