My name is Gloria Patterson and I am junior at James Madison University working toward majoring in marketing and journalism. I am ecstatic to contribute as a Style Guru to share what I see and love this summer from wherever I am!
I was born and raised in Seoul, South Korea and have lived a good portion of my life in Tokyo, Japan and Washington D.C. Among the many great things regarding fashion I’ve learned from living in three of the most densely populated cities of the world is its power to persuade. When I’m in Seoul I am more than tempted to follow their city trends, but when I’m in my own college town of Harrisonburg my style does this 180 turn where I focus more on comfort and simplicity.
I think we’ve all come to the consensus that fashion is an outlet for self-expression and a form of art where your body is your own palette. To expand on this, not only does it serve for enhancing individuality but it also plays a unique role in narrating our everyday feelings, moods and ever-changing personalities.
Now about my future, my answer is I’m not really sure. I came in as Communications major, then I was an Art major for a day and sometimes I wish I could be a Pediatric surgeon (too much Grey’s Anatomy). Although it took me more than a year to decide on a major, at the end of each day I knew my infatuation with fashion was too big to not include it in my future plans.
Not all of us read through InStyle on the daily, nor do we religiously watch the runway. Much of what influences our wardrobe come right from our peers. With that said, I cannot wait to report on Fashionistas/os!
