My name is Gloria Patterson, and I am stoked to be back with CollegeFashionista as a Style Guru for the fall semester. Entering my junior year of college at James Madison University, I can say with confidence that I’ve learned more about myself in the past eight months than I have in the past eight years. One thing’s for certain, I’m falling more and more in love with fashion every single day. Putting my youth years in the backseat and entering my twenties, I am every word in the thesaurus that is synonymous to overwhelmed, excited and nervous to see what’s in store for me.
With the school year about to begin, I have a new school year fashion resolution. In one of my classes I learned that there are four basic business strategies: prospector, analyzer, defender and reactor. I think the same strategies go for fashion. I’ve been a reactor for the past 20 years, meaning I see what others do and simply follow the ones I like (sometimes with a minor twist). Boring, I know. It’s time to be a prospector and take some risks for my wardrobe. As a business student, I am constantly reminded of the importance of investment and as a fashion fiend, I hope to invest in some timely pieces and build my closet! My first step in the resolution is wearing bolder shoes like these heels from Zara I’m dying to try.
I once promised myself that when I turned the age 20 I would only wear heels (inspired by Victoria Beckham); however, I attend college in Harrisonburg, in the midst of the Shenandoah Valley, covered in beautiful trees and inundating hills. That would be a pretty hard task. It’s a pretty barren town with minimal space for style inspiration but the students of James Madison University make it lively. With that said, I can’t wait to find and share the eclectic styles of students in Monday’s STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK!
